"Efficient and functional cattle that produce excellent carcases, tender tasty beef and are ideally suited to cross breeding enterprises".

The efficiency and functionality of Red Polls is not unique, however it is a feature of the breed that is very relevant to the profit objective of most breeders of beef cattle. The tender tasty beef of Red Polls is relatively unique feature of the breed that will become increasingly important to all sectors of the beef industry. The suitability of Red Polls for cross breeding is based on many features of the breed that make Red Polls ideal.

The following strategies have been developed to address the goals and objective of the Australian Red Poll Breeders Inc.:

The Red Poll Marketing Alliance

This was established in 1999 by members of the Victorian Region of the Australian Red Poll Cattle Breeders Inc. Membership of the Alliance is open to members of the Australian Red Poll Society and to other breeders of Red Polls, and any other beef breeds.

In May, 1999, the Alliance was successful in gaining a grant of $4000 from Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) which will be used over the next three years. The first major activity of the Alliance was their attendance at a Cattlecare Accreditation Program at Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE at Epping beginning on August 28, 1999.

At the conclusion of the Program, producers should have all the requirements of Cattlecare fulfilled in preparedness for an external audit if they desire one. The intended use of the remainder of funds is to assist members of the Alliance to better manage their cattle ventures, to improve the quality of their product and to better handle the marketing of their stock. This will be accomplished by their attendance at workshops and courses organised in association with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the RIST Centre, the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT) and other State Government bodies.
